(London), 5 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches tall red cloth hardcover in publisher's unclipped dust jacket, red on black lettering to spine, 511 pp. First edition, in a first state jacket with itself as the last title mentioned in the advertisement list on back panel. Date from Introduction. Slight to moderate soiling, rubbing and edgewear to covers, with a bit of fraying to the lower fore edges of the covers. Sun-darkening and creasing to spine. Moderate soiling to page edges. Otherwise, apart from expected age toning, a very good copy - clean and unmarked - in a soiled, creased and edgeworn first issue dust jacket which has a couple of small holes but which is nicely preserved and displayed in a clear archival Brodart sleeve.
