Enraptured with aviation, Eichner soon followed his heart again, and scraped together the money for flying lessons. About the Author

Father, pilot, businessman, sportsman, and rockhound, Ken Eichner has spent most of his adult life in the seat of an aircraft. Based in Ketchikan, Eichner's adventurous life has had an impact on the use of the helicopter in Alaska, on helicopter design, on mineral development in Southeast, and on the lives of many people whom he and his employees plucked from the jaws of death in Alaska's wild country.

Now a great-grandfather, Eichner has retired from commercial flying, but keeps his hand in various business ventures in and around Ketchikan. An outdoorsman to the core, he and his Hughes 500 are often seen flying from point to point, going prospecting, fishing, or otherwise enjoying Alaska's beauty. He personally flies the flag at Ketchikan's Fourth of July observances, and occasional flights to Prince Rupert to play golf punctuate his summers at home. Winters are often spent in Kona, Hawaii, where he and his wife Peggy maintain a small vacation home. It is his hope that this book will share the color and character of his life, provide insight into local history, as well as pass on lessons learned to future generations of helicopter and seaplane pilots in Alaska and abroad.
