Nobby Told Me: Rags to Riches in America

His parents were so poor he was born on a kitchen table. Growing up in the depression years, shooting rabbits to feed his parents. Overcoming the Iron lung disease. Claimed he was the dumbest kid in high school. Barely graduated in 1942 and went off to fight in the World War. Found easy duty as a gunnery and bombardier instructor. A pencil-thin mustache rock star with women who smuggled Canadian whiskey across the border to sell on a navy base. Got an itch to go fight America's enemies. Bombing Japanese ships and rescuing sailors in the ocean with his PBY Black Cat squadron after the sea battles in the Philippines. Three plane crashes and a broken back. Capturing a pygmy headhunter in Borneo. Impersonating an officer after the war. Marrying his prewar sweetheart and raising a family. Building a world-famous manufacturing company. Retiring at forty-seven-years old with four kids still at home. This rags to riches man was my father, Nobby. He told me these stories. I finally wrote them down.
