Synopsis
The definitive guide on non-destructive testing.
Non-Destructive Testing and Testability of Materials and Structures encompasses a wide range of methods for inspecting an object without modifying it. Analysis must be unambiguous, particularly in sensitive industrial sectors such as nuclear and aeronautics. This book provides an exhaustive presentation of the parameters for carrying out this sort of evaluation, the conditions under which it can occur, and the characteristics of potential defects. Additionally, it explores the physical principles, technology, and current methods of non-destructive testing (NDT), both common and specific. This manual also describes methods for identifying factors that can deteriorate measurements and distort analysis. In this way, it introduces and defines the concepts of structural noise and environmental parameters. The book also proposes solutions to these challenges, notably based on progress made in phenomena modeling and inversion methods. Finally, it deals with information post-processing (both of signals and images) and presents a new approach called Recommandations de Conception basées sur des règles de Contrôle Non-Destructif (RC-CND). Aimed at both experienced professionals and students of NDT, this book will constitute a precious and lasting reference.
About the Authors
Gilles Corneloup is university professor at Aix-Marseille University. He created and directed the Non-Destructive Testing Laboratory in 1989, which has become the reference laboratory in the field of NDT, with nearly one hundred industrial contracts, and 30 theses and habilitations defended in this field.
Cécile Gueudré is a lecturer at Aix-Marseille University. She holds a PhD in mechanics and teaches material science and non-destructive testing. She conducts research in radiographic and ultrasonic inspection of welds, and in inversion processes. She has been a permanent member of the LCND non-destructive testing laboratory since 1994 and joined the LMA (UPR CNRS 7051) when the LCND was attached.
Marie-Aude Ploix is a Research Engineer (PhD in Mechanics and Acoustics) at Protisvalor/Aix-Marseille University. As a permanent member of the LCND laboratory since 2006, she has joined LMA (UMR 7031) at the time of the LCND attachment in 2012. She conducts research works on ultrasonic propagation for NDT. She is in charge of NDTValor in Aix-Marseille since 2012.
