The text is designed to provide readers with a deep understanding of how nonlinear acoustic phenomena manifest in various material contexts, from crystalline structures to complex composites. Suitable for readers in the fields of acoustics, materials science, and engineering, this book can advance the development of nonlinear acoustics theory and promote its applications in non-destructive testing, materials sciences, and related areas.
Professor Xiaozhou Liu is a professor at the Acoustics Institute of Nanjing University, China. He also serves as the director of the Jiangsu Acoustical Society and holds the Pan Zhonglai Distinguished Professorship at Nanjing University.
Professor Liu obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from Nanjing University in 1999. He then pursued postdoctoral research at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China from 1999 to 2000. In 2009, he was a visiting scholar at the Materials Research Institute of Pennsylvania State University, the USA.
His research interests include nonlinear acoustics, medical ultrasound, and ultrasonic non-destructive testing. Professor Liu has led several key research projects, including a national key research and development plan and six Chinese National Natural Science Foundation projects. He has also participated in four major national scientific research projects and one key project of the National Natural Science Foundation. His work has resulted in the development of a new type of piezoelectric ultrasonic sensor, which has been appraised as reaching an internationally advanced level. Additionally, he has been granted 14 national invention patents. He received the second prize of the Higher Education Science and Technology Progress Awards in 2022, the second prize of the Higher Education Natural Science Awards in 2007, and the third prize of the National Education Commission Science and Technology Progress Awards in 1997.
