About the Author

I was born Antonia DiStasio in Luogosano, Avellino - a small mountain village 45 minutes from Naples, Italy. Having immigrated to the United States with my family when I was 8 years old, I, we, had to learn the English language to become citizens of the U.S. My mother had a God given gift for making a gourmet meal out of nothing. I, along with my sisters and brothers, were taught early on to cook and bake. But you know, no matter how much we tried to duplicate her foods, somehow it never came out exactly the way she made it! It's got to be that the size of one's hand has to make the difference because my mother would put in a handful of this and a pinch of that. My mother, Vincenzina Ruggiero Buono DiStasio, taught us that the kitchen is a never ending affair that anything is possible. She would tell us "Great tasting food and good company makes for a great love affair". She was right! On and off I would cook a meal and either bring it in to work, doctor's office or to parties for everyone to enjoy and would delight in seeing everyone smacking their lips and going for 2nds and 3rds. I would cook a feast for my children's special occasions and gatherings rather than having it catered. Of course, my husband was happy as long as I cooked! I was always asked for my recipes. Like my mother, I tried to teach my children to cook early on, some later rather than earlier, so if I wasn't around they could always make themselves something. When my daughter, Gina, got married she requested my recipes in book form...thus: Nonna's Kitchen. I hope you enjoy each and every recipe as much as we all do.
