Normal Isn’t Normal is a book of poems from author Robert Benefiel. The works included in this collection were all written between 2017-2018. During this time the author had begun to lean towards an exploration of his own domesticity, and the effects on his work. Some of the poems reflect on earlier times in the author’s life and the fondness that one might develop for their own failures and freedom from the past, while other pieces have a tendency to focus on the enjoyment and hardships of raising children and being married. Within all the works there is a recognition of both the acceptance, and the struggle, of trying to be a creative person who has little time to create, as well as the positive and negative effects of being a creative person can have on their relationships and livelihood.
