North Carolina Slaves And Free Persons Of Color: Iredell County

Originally published in 1884, this book gives the reader an opportunity to step into the past and experience life in Springfield near the turn of the century. Not only is this book filled with information about Springfield's history, its growth as a city, its government, its religious organizations and educational institutions, and its financial and business institutions, it also contains almost two hundred illustrations. The views show some of the historic, unique and prominent features of the city and the portraits feature the faces of those men prominent in civil government, the local literary annals, or enterprises that brought wealth and fame to the city. All of the chapters of the book were written by citizens of Springfield, creating a unique and personal perspective of the town. A bibliography of printed matter relating to the town, a full name and subject index, and an index of illustrations all provide instant access to information.
