The Northern Ireland Collection [Wolverhampton Art Gallery]

In the 1980s, Wolverhampton Art Gallery started to acquire art based on the conflict in Ulster, creating the only collection of its kind in a regional museum. Regarded as too controversial to be actively collected at the height of the conflict, the works encourage reflection on the various ways in which war and trauma find their way into the cultural domain. Movements towards peace in Ulster, and continuing global conflicts elsewhere, provide a new context for this collection, which features artists Paul GRAHAM, Willie DOHERTY, Jock McFAYDEN, and Conrad ATKINSON.
