Blue printed paper wrappers, edges untrimmed, 5 figures, tables, foot notes. Second edition. Some pages unopened, prior owner name on half-title (Susan E. Blow), pencil underlining and marginal notations. Wrappers soiled and edge-worn with minor loss to back panel, leaf edges curled, damp stain to very bottom edge of front wrapper and a few leaves. Thorndike, 1874-1949, was a Williamsburg, Mass.-born educational psychologist who worked a Columbia University. Susan Elizabeth Blow, 1843-1916, known as the "Mother of the kindergarten", was a St. Louis-born educator. She opened the nation's first kindergarten in St. Louis in 1873.
