The purpose of the Symposium was to bring together scientists from those various fields of Physics that involve atomic inner shell-processes. Beyond doubt much valuable information was exchanged during the meeting. The intention of these present volumes is tocollect this otherwise scattered material. Hopefully it may also serve as a useful reference source for future research work on inner shell phenomena. This book (volume I) contains extended résumés of most of the 30 talks given during the conference, all presented in the same order as at the meeting. Furthermore, extended abstracts from the poster session appear in alphabetical order.
