Kane, John K. [1795-1858]. Notes on Some of the Questions Decided by the Board of Commissioners Under the Convention with France, of 4th July, 1831. Philadelphia: James Kay, Jun. & Brother, 1836. 108 pp. Octavo (9" x 6"). Stab-stitched pamphlet, spine reinforced with archival tape, rear wrapper lacking. Author presentation inscription "Ch. R. Bancker, Esq. from his H[umble] Serv[ant], J K Kane" and later library stamp to wrapper, internally clean. $50. * Report on spoliation claims from the Quasi-War with France (1798-1800). The recipient of this copy was likely Charles Bancker [c.1776-1869], a colleage of Kane's in the American Philosophical Society. (Kane appears to have misremembered Bancker's middle name, Nicholl.) Kane, an attorney and federal judge, was also a close ally of President Andrew Jackson and an influential political strategist. OCLC locates 23 copies, none in law libraries.
