Notes Of A Trip To The Veddahs Of Ceylon (1902)

""Notes of a Trip to the Veddahs of Ceylon"" is a travelogue written by Hiram Milliken Hiller and published in 1902. The book details Hiller's journey to the remote and isolated Veddah tribe in Sri Lanka, also known as Ceylon at the time. The Veddahs were a group of indigenous people who lived in the forests of Sri Lanka and were known for their unique customs and way of life. Hiller's account of his journey provides a fascinating insight into the Veddahs' culture, beliefs, and daily activities. He describes their hunting techniques, their use of medicinal plants, and their spiritual practices. Hiller also shares his observations on the Veddahs' physical appearance, language, and social organization. The book is not only a travelogue but also a valuable anthropological study of a little-known community. Hiller's writing is vivid and engaging, and he provides a wealth of information and anecdotes about his experiences with the Veddahs. Readers interested in Sri Lankan history, anthropology, or travel writing will find this book a fascinating and informative read. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
