About this title

Synopsis

Notices On The Models, Charts And Drawings Relating To The Works Of The Ponts Et Chaussées" And The Mines by Félix Lucas. This 19th-century technical catalog, translated for American visitors, collects model descriptions, plans, and notices published by France’s Ministry of Public Works and Mines. It surveys the organization, methods, and projects of the Ponts et Chaussées and Minés, including general documents on roads, railways, internal navigation, and maritime works, followed by detailed sections on bridges, viaducts, aqueducts, basins, lighthouses, and hydraulic installations. The volume juxtaposes architectural and engineering drawings with measurements, costs, and construction techniques, offering a panoramic view of French public works development in the era. Translated with care, the text includes prefatory remarks by the translator and notices on the authors and collaborators, presenting both the state of the art and the historical context of these major infrastructure projects.
