8vo. Publisher's cloth. Leather pastedown to spines. Gilt top edge. Hand-pressed paper with deckle edge. Frontispiece in each volume. This is a 25-volume set (of an original 26-volume set; lacks Vol. II - Treasure Island [of course]) of the complete works of Robert Louis Stevenson. This set is a reprint of the more common red Thistle Edition of Stevenson's works. The Thistle editions are identical, except that this set is bound in brown cloth with leather pastedowns on the spine rather than in red with the "thistle" embossments. Though uniform, the books in this set have different dates of publication and different bookplates inside front covers. All volumes are Good+ or Very Good condition, with common flaws being shelf wear and sunning to spines as well as overopened hinges. All are tight and clean. This set is from the estate of Rex Maughan (1936-2021), major Robert Louis Stevenson collector and archivist who, as Chairman of the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum, greatly contributed to the preservation of Stevenson's estate in Valima, Samoa.
