During his decades of service with different Lutheran and community congregations, he confronted the same questions over and over, reminding him of his own days in the seminary. Like the members of his congregation, he too had many questions about the interpretation of scripture and its modern applications. Viereck remembers his disappointment as instructors chastised him for asking too many questions and his joy at discovering there were others who celebrated and encouraged his natural curiosity. Viereck's new biblical study, Then Is Now, is in honor of all those curious congregants. He hopes that his work not only answers your questions about the New Testament but fires you up and inspires you to dig deeper into scripture. Then Is Now discusses the following: The historical context of the New TestamentThe viewpoint of communities of the early churchThe evolution of biblical interpretationThe effects of the ReformationThe meaning of the important narratives of the New Testament Viereck provides an in-depth examination of the birth, passion, and resurrection accounts found in the Gospels. He shows how the Bible can be seen through both first-century and twenty-first-century lenses. This item is printed on demand. Viereck provides an in-depth examination of the birth, passion, and resurrection accounts found in the Gospels. He shows how the Bible can be seen through both first-century and twenty-first-century lenses.
Wayne R. Viereck has been a pastor for Lutheran congregations for forty-five years. He spent five years with the Community Church at Saddlebrooke in Tucson, Arizona, and is currently serving part time at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Tucson.
Viereck received his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin and his master's degree from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. He also earned a doctorate in ministry.
During his fifty-five years in the ministry, Viereck heard the same questions-questions he himself wrestled with as a seminary student-coming up time and again from members of his congregation. His new book, Then Is Now, is an exploration of some of these questions and the answers the New Testament provides.
