About the Author

Dr. James Philip retired in 1997 after fifty years of pastoral ministry, the last forty as minister of Holyrood Abbey Church of Scotland in Edinburgh. His scholarly and prophetic expository ministry was widely influential in Scotland and beyond. His Bible notes and many books continue to help ministers, teachers, and theological students throughout the world. Serving the Word of God, a collection of essays celebrating his life and ministry was published to mark his eightieth birthday in January, 2002.
