Numerical Methods in Atmospheric and Oceanic Modelling

This volume is a collection of 27 refered papers by leading scientists in the field of numerical modelling, based on invited presentations dedicated to the memory of Andr J. Robert who had a long and distinguished career in numerical models for atmospheric and fluid models. Among his major contributions are the first integration of a global spectral primitive equation model, the development of an efficient time filter, and pioneering studies in the use of the semi-implicit and semi-Lagrangian methods. The authors are from laboratories around the world, and their papers cover different aspects of numerical methods in meteorology and oceanography. They include extensions of the semi-implicit and semi-Lagrangian schemes, non-hydrostatic models, applications of models using the semi-Lagrangian scheme, data assimilation, operational model development, air sea interaction and ocean models, and discussion of unresolved issues.
