Synopsis

The objective of this monograph is to describe the results of numerical modeling of the detonation process for condensed explosives performed at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory over the last two decades. Models for describing the performance and initiation of explosives are under continuing investigation at laboratories in various countries. This monograph will be useful as a review of previous work and will indicate areas where additional studies may permit increased understanding of detonation physics and chemistry. Another objective is to describe the methods used to model numerically, in one and two dimensions, the reactive dynamics of condensed explosives and their interaction with other materials. This monograph is used as the text for a series of seven training lectures available on color video tape (VT-78-2) from LASL library.
