Nuns Don't Cry

Nuns Don't Cry is a candid and often humorous look at Sister Anthony's life around the time of the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council in the 1960s. It answers the question asked of every ex-nun: "Why did you leave?" The conflicts surrounding that decision result in the ultimate conflict: life versus death. The story takes the reader on the adventures that follow: from the convent to a mental institution, and from East Germany to Africa.

Raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, GL Graber entered a convent in Toronto, Ontario at the age of sixteen and taught elementary school in Ontario and BC during her seventeen years as a nun. After leaving the convent, Geraldine majored in English and studied at the universities in Ontario, BC and Alberta. She began graduate studies at the University of BC and received a doctorate in education from Oregon State University. There she taught writing to international students before taking a position at Eastern Washington University in the education department. In 1996, Geraldine retired from the university and began a second career as an education consultant. It was in this capacity that she went to Chad, Africa in 2002 to develop English programmes and train English teachers. In 2003, she returned to Chad to help AIDS orphans and assist in the development of a primary curriculum for six newly established schools.

Writing has been an interest of Gerladine's since she was eight years old, and she's written poetry, short stories, articles and other published books.

Nuns Don't Cry was written in commemoration of her entry into the convent fifty years ago.
