Nurse-Client Interaction: Implementing the Nursing Process

NURSE-CLIENT INTERACTION has enjoyed success over the past five editions because of its complete coverage of both the theory and practice of nurse-client interaction, framed within the nursing process. The sixth edition builds upon this standard by adding more graphic elements, boxes, and bulleted material more accessible for students. The six-step process, with the new "Outcome Identification" step, is introduced in Chapter 1 and employed throughout to adhere to the latest ANA standards. Takes an in-depth look at the nursing process. Examines the nursing functions and levels of prevention, and goes through the nursing process from data collection to evaluation. Contains chapters on the emergence of the self and the dynamics of growth. Looks at the self from infancy to old age, and the ways in which it perceives itself in terms of body image, self ideal, and self-esteem. Presents theory that enables the nurse to analyze the stress states of self and client, as well as the coping and adaptation mechanism used by each to deal with the stress of daily existence. Emphasizes assisting the student to understand and contribute to the groups that are commonly encountered in a group setting. Relates the three levels of prevention to selected nursing roles, providing an opportunity to study the ways in which basic concepts of interpersonal relationships may be applied in a variety of nursing interventions.
