Nurturing Your Child's Well-Being

An Accessible Parent Guide Focused on Connection and Well-Being

Parenting can feel next-to-impossible when life is so busy and chaotic. You know that building good relationships helps kids thrive―but how can you do that when day-to-day needs are all-consuming? Nurturing Your Child’s Well-Being: Early Elementary makes it easy to gain social-emotional skills and pass those skills along to your child.

In the early elementary years, children are forming identities separate from their parents and learning at an incredible rate. As they become more independent, they need good habits and strong life skills. By learning about emotional regulation and self-care, you can strengthen your relationship with your child and set them up for success, improving overall health and wellness in yourself and your preK–2nd grader. This quick, convenient resource helps you:

• Learn techniques for taking better care of yourself and showing up for your child.
• Discover ideas for helping your child sleep well, eat healthy, stay hydrated, and get plenty of exercise.
• Stay in control of your child’s technology use by setting balanced limits on screen time and keeping them safe online.
• Talk to your child about their emotions―and teach them how to talk to you―so they can describe their feelings, ask for what they need, and self-regulate.
• Teach your child to respond to overwhelming situations in healthy ways.
• Maintain a strong parent-child relationship as your child gains independence, with ideas for talking, playing, and spending high-quality time together.
• Remain calm and model self-regulation, even when things get stressful.

This book is part of a three-book collection based on the popular teaching guide Social-Emotional Learning Starts with Us. Guides are also available for parents of upper elementary and middle school students. You know your kids best. With the Nurturing Your Child’s Well-Being collection, you can get to know them even better―and help them get to know themselves.

Every family is unique, so the books in this collection offer a range of ideas and activities to choose from. For any adult entrusted with the care of early elementary–aged children, this short and accessible guide helps you support self-awareness, emotional literacy, social connection, and general well-being.
