Riddles are one of the oldest forms of folklore, and nowhere have they been more popular than in England, where a rich body of them has been handed down from Anglo-Saxon times to the present. From this lore, artist Riana Duncan has selected a group of animal riddles and has lovingly, painstakingly illustrated them for A NUTCRACKER IN A TREE. The old rhyming texts are pungent and wise. They are splendidly set off by Riana Duncan's glowing watercolors and luminous, meticulously rendered ink drawings. Verses and illustrations together reveal familiar creatures in a truly striking fashion. A NUTCRACKER IN A TREE is a book for everyone. Adults and children alike will enjoy matching wits with the age-old puzzles, and all will treasure Riana Duncan's glorious pictures.".…
