About this Item
RUYSCH, Frederik. [OPERA OMNIA ANATOMICO-MEDICO-CHIRURGICA. ONE VOLUME ONLY.] Amstelodami, apud Janssonio-Waesbergios, v.d. (1721-1737). 29 sheets of engraved illustrations. One quarto volume in old calf. The condition of the text leaves and illustrations is very good overall, showing only occasional toning, soiling, or foxing. The volume will need to be rebound. The top board is detached; the lower joint is cracked and the board is attached by the sewing cords; part of the backstrip is missing. The Opera Omnia is a bibliographically complex work that is comprised of separately published works by Ruysch or of works addressed to him by others, either in early or reprinted editions. It was initially issued in two volumes in 1721 and later expanded to four volumes. This volume is comprised of twenty-two titles published at Amsterdam between 1721-1737 by Jansson & Waesberge. All are later editions. As this is volume two (- it is identified as such on the backstrip), it lacks the general title-page and index that were normally bound into the first volume of the Opera Omnia. The contents of this volume include: Sixteen Epistola anatomica problematica (1721-1737) written by various authors with Ruysch's replies; Frederici Ruyschii responsio ad Godefridi Bidloi, libellum, quem vindicias inscripsit (1721); Joannis Jacobi Rau responsio ad qualemcunque defensionem Frederici Ruischii, quam haud ita pridem edidit, pro septo scroti and Joannis Jacobi Rau epistola de inventoribus septi scroti, ad virum clarissimum Fredericum Ruyschium (1737); Adversariorum anatomico-medico-chirurgicorum decas prima[-tertia] in three parts (1723-1736) and Michaelis Ernesti Ettmulleri, . Epistola problematica, ad virum clarissimum Fredericum Ruyschium . de ovario novo (1729). A complete and detailed list of the contents of this volume is available upon request. Frederik Ruysch (1638-1731), a Dutch anatomist and botanist, was professor of anatomy at Leyden and Amsterdam. He is notable for his method of injecting vessels and for his mastery of anatomical preparations (- the preparation and preservation of specimens). Ruysch show. Seller Inventory # 82039
