Leather lightly chipped at spine ends, lightly faded at spine. Comparisons between societies and biological organisms were used by Comte, Herbert Spencer, Schaeffle, and dozens of others in the nineteenth century. Worms presented highly detailed comparisons between biological and social organisms in this work Organisme et Societe (1896). The issue of "organicism" was heatedly debated at the 1897 Congress of the Institut International de Sociologie. René Worms (1869 - 1926) was a lecturer on political economy in the faculty of law of the University of Paris in 1895, and transferred in 1897 to the department of political economics at Caen, remaining there until 1902 when he was appointed honorary professor of political economy at the Commercial Institute, Paris. In 1893 Worms established the "Revue Internationale de Sociologie," of which he became the editor, and later founded the "Bibliothèque Sociologique Internationale," besides organizing the Institut International de Sociologie and the Société de Sociologie de Paris. his principal works being as follows: "De la Volonté Unilatérale Considérée Comme Source d'Obligations" (1891); "Précis de Philosophie" (3d ed. 1905); "Eléments de Philosophie Scientifique et de Philosophie Morale" (1891); "La Morale de Spinoza" (1892); "De Natura et Methodo Sociologiæ" (1896); "Organisme et Société" (1896); "La Science et l'Art en Economie Politique" (1896); and "Philosophie des Sciences Sociales" (3 vols., 1903-5).
