Quarto edition : ORIGINAL PLATE XIV APRICOTS : This is an original stipple engraving, trimmed at the base, printed in color and hand-finished for the 1816-1817 edition of Pomona Britannica by G. Brookshaw, published in London. This edition features 60 plates depicting 174 varieties of fruit, primarily those cultivated in and around London, particularly at the Royal Gardens at Hampton Court. The collection includes tree fruits such as apples, peaches, cherries, plums, and figs, as well as berries and grapes. The quarto edition prints are characterized by their more delicate designs set against light backgrounds. It is likely that the style of these quarto plates is influenced by Brookshaw's other pursuits as an author of drawing instruction books and a designer of painted furniture. These prints may have been intended as illustrations for watercolor copying practice or models for decorative arts designers.This print is in excellent condition, showcasing fine color with no foxing noted.
