16pp, original printed wrappers [loose]. Disbound, else Very Good. An Irish immigrant, O'Reilly was an enthusiastic promoter of internal improvements and reform projects. As DAB notes, he "was constantly advancing a cause." Here he stands four-square for the Union, calling the War a contest between "popular government" and "aristocrats" or "monarchists" who would destroy democracy. His ideal is Andrew Jackson Hamilton, the Congressman from Texas who, at great personal risk, remained loyal to the Union and whose writings O'Reilly quotes abundantly here. Seller Inventory # 32003
