TITLE CONTINUED: Containing 15 engravings, and intended as an accompaniment to the 3 CELEBRATED whole-sheet plates of his LORDSHIP's SPLENDID VICTORIES, viz. THE BATTLES OFF ST. VINCENT's, THE NILE, AND TRAFALGAR. THE CELEBRATED 3 LARGE ENGRAVED PLATES ARE PRESENT IN THIS COPY which are explained by references and keys, the size of the plates is 600 x 510 mm, 25 x 20 inches. Text watermarked "J. Whatman 1804", J. G. Barnard, Printer, Snow-Hill, 1806 at foot of title page. Folio approximately 370 x 260 mm, 14½ x 10½ inches, 19 engraved plates, full page engraved portrait of Lord Nelson, 5 hand-coloured aquatint plates (4 double-page), Young Nelson's Attack and Chase after a Bear, England expects every Man to do his Duty, Lord Nelson's Procession by Water, The Funeral Procession of Lord Viscount Nelson, The Ceremony of Lord Nelson's Interment, 4 uncoloured engraved strip views of battle scenes, 1 full-page facsimile of Nelson's handwriting, another small 1 in text. The Remains of Lord Nelson proceeding from Greenwich Hospital, strip view, "Ode" a double page plate, and a plate entitled "Proclamation of Lord Nelson" in Italian and Vulgar Greek, with an additional leaf bound in, entitled "Lines by H. Tresham" after page 62, 3 engraved plates of references and keys to the 3 Celebrated plates at rear, the large Celebrated plates are all linen-backed, these plates were issued separately and are scarce and often missing, our copy lacks advertisment at rear. Pages: title page, [4], 6-66, [8], rebound in modern half calf, old moire cloth covers, gilt lettering, date and decorations to spine, endpapers replaced, bookplates of Norman Bobins and Henry Hume Lloyd to first pastedown. Cloth covers slightly scratched, slight shelf wear to edges, inner hinge cracked, 2 coloured plates have a pale narrow vertical brown stain to centre fold, small closed tear neatly repaired to first free endpaper, 5 small closed tears neatly repaired to margins, hardly noticeable, 1½ inch crack to lower centre fold of funeral procession (see image), linen backing to all large Celebrated plates browned with foxing to margins, small minor linen repairs to 3 folding plates on the blank side, the Ode has pale offset, occasional pale foxing and stains mostly to margins, slight handling creases to lower margins, otherwise a good copy with the rare Celebrated plates.
