About this title

Synopsis

In Out of Service author Shane McGarrett bravely shares her experiences serving four years in the United States Air Force.

"During the middle of the Vietnam Conflict, I was honored to become the first woman to earn the certification of Jet Engine Mechanic. That honor, while it came with many accolades, was not without some obstacles along the road – at best. One I feel lucky to have survived," former E4 Sergeant Shane McGarrett said.

Shane intertwines the details of a young servicewoman’s journey. She was able to showcase talents that enabled her to prove she was a trained soldier who could proudly represent the USAF in addition to being the first woman Jet Engine Mechanic of the Vietnam Era. She takes the readers through the unknown life of a young woman coming of age, coming into her own, and standing up for what is right. Love.

Join Shane McGarrett for an emotionally engaging, fascinating, riveting - sometimes dangerous - adventure through the early 1970s that even got her arrested. Gain insight into why it was a challenge to be herself, a young woman, and feminist who was not ashamed to be a lesbian - even at that time in history.

“Shane is a compelling writer with a powerful true story to tell. Definitely deserves 5 stars… and I don’t give those out easily.” ~ Barbara Gangi, Executive Producer from Hollywood’s Producer’s Guild.
