AN OUTCAST OF THE ISLANDS

This is a very fine copy of An Outcast of the Islands, the 2nd novel by the great writer British Joseph Conrad (1857-1924). It was first published in 1896 and was inspired by Conrad's time on the Norwegian steamer Vidar. The novel details the undoing of Peter Willems, a disreputable, immoral man who, on the run from a scandal, finds refuge in a hidden native village, only to betray his benefactors over lust for the tribal chief's daughter. It is a riveting story. This copy was published in 1975 by the Limited Editions Club and is of the best quality. It is printed on beautiful paper, with color illustrations by the famed American illustrator Robert Shore (1924-2014). It's a large book--9" x 11 1/2", and 212 pages, in a hard slipcase. The front endpaper is signed by its original owner, a Canadian diplomat. There's a little bit of wear to the slipcase. Minor fading to the spine of the book. The rest of the book is in pristine condition.
