Object Relations, the Self, and the Group: A Conceptual Paradigm (International Library of Group Psychotherapy and Group Process)

This established text presents a framework for integrating group psychology with psychoanalytic theories of object relations, the ego and the self, through the perspective of general systems theory. Besides delineating their own theoretical approach, the authors define and discuss key constructs in group dynamics, group therapy, object relations theory and ego and self psychologies, both in relation to one another and in the context of practical examples.

The authors are to be congratulated on a work which can be recommended as a training text for advanced courses in group psychotherapy.

Group psychotherapists must become as expert in group life as they are in psychopathology and psychotherapeutic procedures if they are to take full advantage of the therapeutic potential of the group setting. A close reading of the present volume would be an important step in that direction.
