Oeuvres Spirituelles Du P. Judde: De La Compagnie De J?sus

Oeuvres Spirituelles Du P. Judde: De La Compagnie De Jésus — Judde. This Catholic spiritual treatise, grounded in Scripture and patristic exempla, presents a program of interior reform for priests, novices, and religious ministers. The central claim is that genuine virtue rests on interior mortification of passions; external austerities are not sufficient. The work argues that virtue must flow from a solid inner principle and bear lasting fruit, achieved through universal, continuous mortification of all disorderly movements of spirit, heart, and appetite, guided by love of God and vigilant self-observation. It prescribes regular retreats, examinations, and obedience to a strong spiritual director, with three conditions for success: universal mortification, disinterestedness and poverty, and perseverance. It offers concrete practices—regulated leisure, simple living, constant prayer, humility, and a readiness to suffer for God—and addresses objections about health, temperament, and social obligations. Distinguishing among communities, it asserts interior life and obedience as primary levers of perfection over outward austerities. The text also treats the danger of human respect and the call to apostolic boldness, martyrdom, and fidelity to divine will, all grounded in Scripture and the early Fathers. Its aim is to deepen commitment to a life of continuous sanctity and fearless witness.
