Books are described carefully, accurately and fairly. Despite this errors can occur and of course we'll acknowledge any brought to our attention. If this error is material then we'll either make an appropriate partial refund or allow you to return the book at our cost and make a full refund of the book and postage costs originally paid by you.

Unfortunately too many booksellers, or at least among those recently come to the trade and treating books primarily as commodities, get over-optimistic about condition, something which can lead to disappointment when the "fine" book turns out to have bumped corners, a fair bit of foxing or even have library markings on the spine or a label inside. In contrast we tend to underdescribe and rarely call a book anything better than "very good" even if it's in pretty much new condition.

Please remember, also, that we don't inflate postage costs to compensate for absurdly low prices - you'll pay whatever the postage costs and if we can save you money by combining books in one package we'll do so.

We also want you to be happy with your purchase and if having a received a book you decide promptly you no longer want to buy it please feel free to return it without necessarily giving any cause or justification for doing so but after advising us by email or telephone that you plan to do so and receiving due acknowledgement. In such cases the cost of returning the book as well as the original postage cost will fall on you but you'll receive a prompt refund of the cost of the book itself.

Nothing written here supercedes your statutory rights as a consumer and arising from the EU Consumer Rights Directive duly implemented into UK law, for which see the section below, Information Regarding the Right of Cancellation.

Books are priced individually and those prices do not include shipping costs or insurance. Books can also be collected, by arrangement.

The shipping matrix is, and can only be, a very rough guide to postage costs being based, as it is, on a base weight of 1kg (2.2lbs), with the additional book bringing that weight up to a maximum of 2Kg and with the package as a whole fitting in to the "small parcel" criterion of height + width + depth not exceeding 90cm and with no single side longer than 60cm (which certainly covers ordinary books, of course).

In consequence, postage costs may be less or more than estimated in that matrix but will always be charged at whatever rate Royal Mail has come up with at the time. We'll also seek to minimise postal charges by packing two or more books together or by using carriers for larger consignments, as appropriate. As for compensation for loss or damage in transit, Royal Mail has quietly reduced the amounts that can be claimed to £20.00 in general but additional insurance can be had and we'll let you know how much that will be where necessary.
