Authors Michael McCaffery and Bill Scott bring experience in distributed computing and Java to the table with an in-depth look at the core concepts of CORBA and VisiBroker. The subject is laced with acronyms, but the material is well-organized. The writers spell out the essential CORBA concepts intertwined with VisiBroker features. After presenting the basics of the Interface Definition Language (IDL), they show how IDL data types map to Java equivalents and then proceed to more advanced issues.

Plenty of flow diagrams help illustrate the many abstract concepts addressed in the book. A companion CD-ROM includes all of the sample source code in the book as well as a 60-day trial version of the VisiBroker for Java product.
