Ohman's Road Map of Ulster County, State of New York

Pocket map, lacking original boards but backed with contemporary linen. Very good condition, with light wear and soiling, short splits along two folds. Outline color by county. This is a rare map from the successor to the Colton map publishing company. The Colton family began publishing maps in 1833. The company's business was narrowed largely to publishing maps of the New York area by the early 1890's. Colton merged with Ohman in or around 1896. Their last recorded publication was in 1901. This map contains a note, printed in red, indicating that it was "intended for the use of Sportsmen, Whellmen and Driving Parties." The western part of Ulster County is in the heart of the Catskill Mountains.
