In Moanda, where oil is extracted, noise pollution, gas flaring and toxic waste are at the root of the severe degradation of the natural environment, to the detriment of the populations who suffer from oil exploitation without receiving the alleged benefits. In this case, the Congolese state does not seem to be effectively fulfilling its role as protector of individuals whose rights are affected by oil and gas activities.
