The Old Free State: A Contribution to the History of Lunenburg County and Southside Virginia, Volume II

Undeniably the most important work ever undertaken on Southside Virginia, and the standard history of Lunenburg County, this noble work identifies the early pioneers and settlers of the territory; examines its political, social and economic development; surveys the early churches, courts and military establishment; argues the case of slavery, secession and the Civil War; and traces approximately 20,000 Southside residents both in original records and in separately prepared genealogies.
