The houses of Nantucket are unique treasures of American architecture. In this venerable whaling community, styles developed parallel to the great traditions of the mainland, but always with differences all their own. Ranging from the early houses of 1659-1750 through the handsome mansions of the Greek Revival period, this chronological tour offers 352 b/w photographs. For professionals and amateurs alike, who are interested in restoration of old homes, particularly their own, the book offers a wealth of authentic information and tasteful adaptations to modern life. It is a photographic tour of Nantucket architecture and a lesson in interior decoration.
