Item description from seller

. xxxii + 279 pages, foxed, a little dampstaining to fore edge of front board, past owner's signature to title page. Rev David McCalman Turpie (1824-1895) ran a private boarding school in North Berwick. He appears to have originated from Pittenweem and to have studied nearby at the University of St Andrews. He says he had spent a goodly prortion of his time for the past 24 years on the languages and literature of the East. He also wrote The New Testament View of the Old (a projected related third volume seems not to have appeared); and A Manual of the Chaldee Language. Much reference to the Septuagint and to Codex Sinaiticus and other assorted manuscripts and ancient translations.
