Old Testament Prophecy : Its Witness as a Record of Divine Foreknowledge : the Warburton Lectures for 1876-1880 : With Notes on the Genuineness of the Book of Daniel and the Prophecy of the Seventy Weeks

"Old Testament Prophecy Its Witness As A Record Of Divine Foreknowledge The Warburton Lectures For 1876-1880 With Notes On The Genuineness Of The Book Of Daniel And The Prophecy Of The Seventy Weeks" by Stanley Leathes. This scholarly work defends the view that Hebrew prophecy is a true foreknowledge of divine intent, and that the prophetic writings, including Daniel and the Seventy Weeks, testify to divine revelation. Leathes surveys the biblical corpus from the Abrahamic promise to the Davidic covenant, the Tabernacle of David, the predicted captivities and the return, and the advent of Christ, arguing that Old Testament predictions bear a coherent, supernatural character. He engages with contemporary critical theories (notably Kuenen's naturalistic view) and defends the possibility of prophecy's predictive dimension. The lectures present an approach that sees prophecy as a twofold enterprise: to witness to God's foreknowledge and to support the Christian claim by aligning prophetic anticipation with the person and work of Jesus. The volume thus serves as apologetics for revelation, prophecy, and the authority of Scripture."
