Heavy rubbing to cover extremities; spine gutters rubbed and front gutter has sustained 1/4" tear in cloth. Gilt spine lettering partially rubbed away. Cover cloth somewhat faded. Broken hinge papers have been glue-repaired; text block slightly mis-aligned. Portion of newspaper clipping from 1888 affixed to front endpaper. Limted library marks: spine label; bookplate to inside cover; small "date due" slip- and pocket-removal remnants to rear endpapers. Text is complete, clean, and intact.
