A gritty, unflinching collection of award-winning short stories that will enthrall historical fiction and weird western fans. This collection captures the spirit of individualism set against the darker side of life in the American West. From Colorado gold-camps where all that glittered was not gold, to the wide-open empty of Wyoming's range and reaching through the vast expanse of Montana, this collection captures a raw West in stark contrast to civilized society. Readers will discover untold stories about strong, independent women who simply did not back down.
The Devil's Rope - A woman's personal fight in the aftermath of Ella Watson's (Cattle Kate) lynching during Wyoming's Range War. Starred Library Journal Review.
Death and Singular Obligations - The question of whether or not to do the right thing despite past grievances, or to let a woman die on her own.
Vampires of State Street - At her own peril, a dancehall girl in rollicking Leadville seeks an easier existence by taking up with one of the legendary "vampires" who plied their trade along notorious Tiger Alley and State Street.
The Rough Side of Town - A Clairvoyant, a mining swindle, and a fresh start. Maude Montgomery, abandoned by her husband in Nebraska, heads west to take up fortune telling in Cripple Creek - a chancy proposition at the best of times.
Too Much Dancing Going On - a novella about a woman's quest for books and reading as she undertakes hazardous journeys through Montana's early settlement. Will Rogers Medallion Finalist.

About the Author
Randi Samuelson-Brown is originally from Golden, Colorado but now lives in the rowdy city of Denver. A passion for Colorado history was instilled by her father from childhood, and to this day she feels haunted by the West's lesser-known histories (the dark side) and their long-reach into the present. Award winning, her work has been featured on C-SPAN, and she has been a finalist in the Colorado Book Awards and the prestigious SPUR Award from the Western Writers of America.
When not writing, in her free time Randi can be found riding horses and traveling around Colorado and the West, finding inspiration from people, places, and whispers from the past.

Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
