About the Author
Kazimierz M. Slomczynski is a professor of sociology at The Ohio State University, also affiliated with the Polish Academy of Sciences. He specializes in cross-national studies on social structure and inequality, work and personality, social transformation of post-communist societies, and political sociology. He authored, or co-authored, the following English language books: Social Structure and Mobility: Poland, Japan, and the United States (Warsaw: IFiS, 1989); Investigations on Class Structure and Social Stratification in Poland, 1945-1975 (with W. Wesolowski, Warsaw: IFiS, 1977); Social Structure and Self-Direction: A Comparative Analysis of the United States and Poland (with M.L. Kohn, Cambridge: Blackwell, 1990; 1993 paperback edition); and Mental Adjustment to the Postcommunist System in Poland (with K. Janicka, B.W. Mach, and W. Zaborowski, Warsaw: IFiS Publishers, 1999). He also published his work in numerous American and international periodicals, including the American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, Comparative Political Studies, European Sociological Review, International Journal of Sociology, and Social Forces. In addition to editing the two volumes on the post-communist transition in Poland, he co-edited Social Mobility in Comparative Perspective (with W. Wesolowski and B.W. Mach, Wroclaw: Ossolineum, 1978); Class Structure and Social Mobility in Poland (with T.K. Krauze, Armonk, NY: M.E. Sharpe, 1978); and Social Stratification in Poland. Eight Empirical Studies (with T.K. Krauze, Armonk, NY: M.E. Sharpe, 1986).
