Item description from seller

351pp., xi: Vol. I: The Spell of Plato / 420pp., v. Vol. II. First published in 1945; Reprinted in 1947 and 1949; Second edition (revised) 1952; Third edition (revised) 1957; [This set of 2 volumes]: Fourth edition (revised) 1962. (VOL. I: Notes, pp. 202-318; Addenda: I: "Plato and Geometry", pp. 319-320; II: "The Dating of the Theaetetus", pp. 321-322; III: "Reply to a Critic [Ronald B. Levinson]", pp. 323-335; Index of Platonic Passages, pp. 337-338; Index of Names, pp. 339-342; Index of Subjects, pp.343-351. VOL. II: Notes, pp. 281-367; Addendum: "Facts, Standards, and Truth: A Further Criticism of Relativism", pp. 369-396; Index of Names, pp. 397-404; Index of Subjects, pp. 405-420. // Both volumes are black cloth with brilliant copper lettering on spine. Beige dustwrappers not price-clipped ("Two Volumes/ Each 30s. net") with title lettering and author name ['K.R. Popper'] lettering in red across top and bottom front cover, respectively; Volume title in black lettering across middle front cover: This is the same appearance as the First Edition, George Routledge & Sons, 1945. Each dw has sun-darkened spine (age-toned, red lettering there only slightly diminished, compared with front cover red lettering, while black lettering is still bold). Both volumes have small or minimal amount of wear along edges: Vol. I : tiny tears at rear cover bottom left corner and front cover top right corner; 1/4" closed tear at top edge front cover at 1/4" to right of gutter; tiny chip at top left spine corner (very nugatory creases across top edge). Vol II: tiny tear at rear cover top left corner; small chip at top center spine with nugatory creasing across top spine and 1/4" closed tear at gutter and at top right edge rear cover at 1" to left of spine corner: These imperfections now backed with Archival tape. Both vols.: very slight rubbing wear down front covers left edge; only a small few minor smudges on covers, with very faint water stains on each spine; tiny nick to dw spine of Vol. II near right edge at 1 1/4" up from bottom right spine corner and 2 small spot stains on right spine edge near gutter midpoint front cover: It all describes much worse than it is, but there you have it in impartial truth. BOTH DUSTWRAPPERS NOW IN BRODART MYLAR, which graciously forgives these peccadilloes. Solid copies for use or collecting. (Shipping and insurance will be calculated at time order is placed through Abebooks.) Laid in: Original set order invoice from Bertram Rota, Booksellers, Bodley House, Vigo Street, London, W. 130th March 1965, to distinguished Author and OSS Officer in WW II, Daniel C. Pinck.
