Softcover. Condition: vg. Fourth edition (Revised). Octavo. XI, [1], 351, [1], V, [1], 420pp. Original printed wrappers over brown cloth with gold lettering on spines. This influential two-volume work by Karl Popper was written during World War II, and was published in London by Routledge in 1945. The work criticizes theories of theological historicism in which history unfolds inexorably according to universal laws, and indicts as totalitarian Plato, Hegel and Marx for relying on historicism to underpin their political philosophies. This book was on the Modern Library Board's list of the 100 Best Nonfiction books. Some discoloration on spines and along edges of wrappers. Wraps in overall good, binding and interior in very good condition. Seller Inventory # 28927
