The Open Window

Framton Nuttel, a nervy man seeking rest, visits Mrs Sappleton in the countryside. Her niece, Vera, tells him a haunting story: three years earlier, Mrs. Sappleton's husband and two brothers went out hunting and never returned, and that's why the window is kept open each evening, in hope they might come back. When the men suddenly reappear at the window, Framton believes they are ghost, but it's revealed that Vera had fabricated the tale as a prank.
