He Opened to Us the Scriptures: Essays in Honor of Arthur A. Just Jr. (Hardback or Cased Book)

When Jesus walked with two disciples on the road to Emmaus, He opened the Scriptures to them and their hearts burned within them. For more than four decades, theologian Arthur A. Just Jr. has done the same for countless students, pastors, and congregations around the world.

This collected work of essays, edited by Charles A. Gieschen, contains works from 21 distinguished scholars to honor Just's remarkable legacy. At their core, they explore three pillars that have defined his life and ministry: the Scriptures, Worship, and Mission of the Church.

Looking at the Gospel of Luke-one of Just's primary focuses-and continuing into core Lutheran theology, these essays honor the same Christ-centered conviction that has graced Just's teachings throughout his career.

Articles Include:

• Luke: Beauty, Discipleship and the Law's Third Use by Peter J. Scaer
• God on the Move: A Truly Real Presence Theology by Jeffrey H. Pulse
• The Arrangement of the Divine Service in the Early Church by John W. Kleinig
• Is the Three-Year Lectionary Really All That New? by Paul J. Grime
• Mission Perspectives from the Lutheran Confessions by Andrew K. Pfeiffer

For pastors, theologians, and students of Lutheran theology, this volume is both a scholarly treasure and a devotional gift.

From the Introduction

"As Jesus did for those two Emmaus disciples, Arthur Just has 'opened up the Scriptures' by revealing Christ to many across the world and made their 'hearts burn.' It is my prayer that these essays by Arthur's cherished colleagues and treasured friends will do the same for him and all others readers of this festschrift written to honor him and glorify our Lord Jesus Christ." -Charles A. Gieschen
