Operational Obscurity: The Long Haul

John Payne is a combat-scarred Special Operations veteran who traded a shattered marriage and estranged son for the anonymity of the open road — “Total Operational Obscurity.” At a Montana rest stop, he witnesses a trafficker named Shane assaulting a teenage runaway, Katie, and his old instincts take over in seconds of brutal, efficient violence. What should be a one-time rescue spirals into a cross-state pursuit when he learns Shane works for Marcus, a trafficking ring running girls from reservation truck stops down to Minneapolis and Chicago. John uses his rig itself as a weapon — sabotaging an old iron bridge to strand his pursuers — before delivering Katie to a fellow veteran’s safehouse network in Minneapolis. Unable to leave the syndicate untouched, he compiles a target list of their remaining safehouses and points his truck east, trading his delivery deadline for a new, unofficial mission. It’s a lean, hyper-competent-protagonist actioner about a man who has nothing left to lose and a very particular set of skills — think Nobody or Reacher on eighteen wheels.
