A record-keeping book to aid pharmacists in complying with the so-called Harrison Narcotics Tax Act, according to which "Under the Regulations of the New Federal Anti-Narcotic Law which goes into effect March 1, 1915, each druggist must keep a separate prescription that he fills for any of the drugs and preparations that come within this law; OR he must keep a Record book which shows: -- (1) the number of prescriptions, (2) the name of the physician or surgeon, and (3) the name of the person for whom such prescription was filled". Volume contains 8 pp. of the text of the law approved by Act of Congress December 17, 1914 (International Revenue Regulations No. 35, issued January 15, 1915), followed by 152 pages of lined, ruled blank pages with columns for a pharmacist to fill in date, prescription number, prescribing doctor, patient name, and the name of the dispenser (pharmacist). Good condition. Board edges rubbed, some chipping around edges of marbled paper covering boards; inner front & rear hinges neatly reinforced. This copy has the first 4 of the lined pages filled out in an elegantly handwritten script by what appears to have been a two-man pharmacy in the town of Winooski, Chittenden County, Vermont, near Burlington: two pharmacist names appear repeatedly, along with several prescribing town doctors.
