A very scarce volume of theological tracts by major eighteenth century theological scholar John Burton. The majority of the text is Latin, with small pieces of Greek and English interspersed.One of the vanishingly scarce so-called 'nonce volumes' of Burton's theological tracts, with seven of his theological works present in one volume.This volume consists of scarce pamphlets authored by Burton between 1748 and 1761, with a general title, table of contents, and indices. Each of the pamphlets are individually paginated, with individual title pages.Present here are: 'Hophni et Phineas', with the title page of the 1761 second edition; 'Heli: Five Exemplum Magistratus Intempestiva Lenitate Peccantis', also with the title page of the 1761 second edition; 'Samuel Triplivi Nomine Laudatus, Propheta', with a 1759 title page; 'De Fundamentalibus Dissertatio Theologica', with title page dated 1756; 'De Praxeos Theologica Abusibus', with title page dated 1761, and 'De Primaevorum Patrum Auctovirate', with title page dated 1748.The final pamphlet, which this work is not always found with, is Burton's 'Papists and Pharisees Compared: Or, Papists and the Corrupters of Christianity', published in 1766.The ESTC records fourteen copies of the volume in its original configuration, and fifteen with this additional pamphlet to the rear.ESTC T95642 and T95337.Undated; dated circa 1771 via the British Library.With the bookplate and sale ink stamps of the Dean and Chapter of Essex to the front pastedown and front free endpaper.A scarce volume of the theological works of John Burton, an English clergyman and academic, a theological and classical scholar. In a full calf binding. Front and rear boards and free endpapers detached but present. Rubbing to back strip, with spine label lacking. Rear joint starting, with board tenderly held by two cords only. Bookplate and stamp to front pastedown and front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound.
